A video wall is more than a display technology. In the right context — a corporate lobby, a command centre, a showroom, a boardroom — it transforms the environment and communicates scale, ambition, and investment in a way that no single screen can match.

LCD vs LED Video Wall Technologies

LCD video walls use individual panels with narrow bezels between them. The best products achieve bezel gaps of under 1.5mm — barely visible in normal viewing conditions. LED video walls (direct-view LED) have no bezels at all: the display surface is a continuous array of LED modules. LED offers superior brightness, wider colour gamut, and better performance at very large sizes, but at significantly higher cost per square metre.

Pixel Pitch: The Resolution Question

For LED video walls, pixel pitch (the distance between individual LED pixels) determines resolution at a given viewing distance. A P2.5 display (2.5mm pixel pitch) looks sharp from 3+ metres. A P1.5 display looks sharp from 2 metres. For a lobby installation viewed from across a room, P2.5–P4 is typically appropriate. For a control room display viewed from 2 metres, P1.2–P1.8 delivers the resolution required.

Content Management Systems

A video wall without a content management system is just a large screen. CMS software allows you to schedule content, manage what displays in each zone of the wall, integrate live data feeds (market data, news, operational metrics), and control the display remotely. For corporate lobbies, branded content loops with live news or weather integration are common. For command centres, real-time operational data overlaid on maps is the typical deployment.

Installation Requirements

Video wall installation requires careful structural assessment — the mounting wall must bear the combined weight of all panels and the mounting frame. Power requirements scale with display size: a 2×3 metre direct-view LED installation can draw 3–5kW continuously. Cable management, ventilation, and access for maintenance must all be planned before installation commences. Ark Canton provides full site survey and installation services.

Operational Use Cases

Corporate lobbies use video walls for brand storytelling, visitor welcome content, and corporate announcements. Boardrooms deploy them for immersive data presentation and video conferencing at a scale that commands attention. Retail showrooms use them to create dynamic product environments. Operations centres use them for real-time monitoring dashboards. In each context, the video wall creates an environment that a collection of standard monitors cannot replicate.
